Frequently Asked Questions
ATEX Technologies is focused on long term implantable components and manufactures innovative fibrous solutions for use in medical devices, life science applications such as cell and tissue culture (see scaffolds for more information) and robotics. The components are engineered to meet exacting physical, performance, and functional characteristics critical to the finished device. All of our components can be fabricated to incorporate custom coatings, sealants, dyes, markings and other fabrication technologies that enhance performance and functionality. ATEX Technologies works with a wide range of materials that contribute to the targeted performance. Materials include, but are not limited to, PET (polyester), for which we have a Master File at the FDA, and proprietary UHMWPE and LCP (liquid crystal polymer) fibers that offer high strength and low creep options for many applications. ATEX Technologies is not a contract manufacturer. We are a solutions provider. We take on projects where we can add value through our innovative engineering so your unique product can be brought to market and become a commercial success. We are not a commodity manufacturer of textiles such as those used in masks, splints or hospital gowns. ATEX innovates custom-engineered, technically high performance fiber-based solutions that result in leading-edge medical technologies. We accomplish this through our most valuable assets, our associates, and through our superior technologies and business systems.
ATEX does not manufacture finished medical devices. Our work is devoted to engineering novel components that will function as a key element of a device. We do however collaborate directly with finished device manufacturers to create components to custom dimensions and shapes. Anything from simple to complex shapes such as flat sheets or die cut parts or 3 dimensional tapers or bifurcate configurations. The components themselves can be fabricated to incorporate custom finishes, assemblies and other enhancements that further improve upon performance and functionality. We offer some assembly services and would welcome any inquiries about how we can partner with you.
Knitting, weaving, braiding and non-woven technologies each have their unique advantages and ATEX can help you decipher which technology best fits your clinical specialty. All types are core competencies at ATEX and each can be used to create novel components. In fact, it is possible to create components that look similar using either knitting or weaving, however their physical and performance characteristics may be quite different. You can learn more about that by following this link.
ATEX Technologies is proud of its innovative engineering; making products that perform precisely and reliably is what we are all about. But our work doesn’t stop there. ATEX offers a variety of services that enables your design concept to come to fruition. Not only can ATEX develop custom yarns and employ a wide variety of fabric formation technologies to achieve critical requirements, we are able to enhance components with a wide range of fabrication options such as advanced laser cutting, forming and assembly to name just a few of our capabilities. In addition, we have impressive material testing and characterization methods in house to ensure that your product is as reliable as it is unique. Our procurement team including both quality and engineering, is also resourceful when it comes to procuring raw materials and qualifying suppliers that align with our application and requirements. It begins with a collaborative team approach to achieve milestones such as testing and characterization, proof of concept and development, and qualification and validation. These milestones play a pivotal role in preparation to manufacture a component with quality that exceeds expectations so we cannot only manufacture a component, we can deliver it on time, every time.
ATEX Technologies works with a wide range of materials and can even combine materials to create a custom, hybrid solution to optimize product performance. It all starts with understanding your needs and then ATEX can develop thermoplastics in house or source materials if it is not one of our current vertically integrated raw material solutions.
